Getting Started on Abela

You can download the Abela app straight off Google PlayStore or Apple’s AppStore on your mobile device.

You must be 18 years of age and you must have a valid Passport (of any nation) and/or SA ID. You may only register once using one ID number and one registered South Africa cell phone number.

When you first register on the Abela application you will be asked to put in your Cell phone number. This must be a registered number.

Once you have received your verification for your number you will need to put in your personal details such as name, last name and create yourself a password.

There will be a field which asks for a registered South African ID or a passport number for Foreign Nationals.

After those details are verified you will need to create a PIN code on your account and take a Selfie for your profile.

Once all information has been put in you will be taken to the home screen where you start off as an Abela user.

KYC verification involves the collecting of a copy of a government-issued ID from you. This can be a photo/scanned copy of either your national ID or Passport.

We are a third-party payment processor and as such we are required by law to verify all of our customers.

How to transact on Abela

You are able to top-up your account directly from your credit/debit card, Zapper, SnapScan, Ozow, bank transfer, any masterpass enabled application or cash deposits at Pick n Pay or any Nedbank ATM nationwide.

Of course! You can deposit physical money at any Nedbank ATM and Pick n Pay store nationwide.

You can withdraw funds directly to a bank account, at any CashExpress ATM as well as at any Pick ‘n Pay nationwide.

Once you have an available cash amount in your Abela Account, you will be able to select either airtime/electricity/data or gaming vouchers to purchase.

With your Abela account, you are able to pay at any location which has a QR Code (SnapScan, Zapper, Masterpass) available and the best part is it’s completely free!

Yes! You are able to pay for your Mukuru, Mama Money, Sikhona and EcoCash on Abela to send money to your friends and family outside of SA in seconds at no additional cost!

Yes! All you need to do is send cash to their phone number and they'll just need to join Abela to claim their payment.

Cryptocurrencies are digital currencies which can be used as a means of payment for goods and services. In addition, cryptocurrencies can also operate as a store of value.

Referral Program

Once your referred friend or family member has signed up to Abela with your referral code, gone through the KYC process and transacted a certain amount, you will receive your reward.

You can invite up to 100 people to Abela, if you wish to refer more user please reach out to customer support to become an Abela Ambassador.

Remember a referred user will need to sign up to Abela with your referral code, go through the KYC process and transact a certain amount in order for you and them to get the reward.

  • There you would see your referral code
  • Click share or copy to share with any and all of your friends and family

Abela Cards

At the moment, we offer an Abela virtual Mastercard, however we are working on our physical card and hoping to receive them soon! You are able to access your personalized virtual Mastercard within the app.

The Abela virtual card is a pre-loaded and reloadable card which can be used for offline & online payments.

Using your virtual card for online payments works in the same way as using a regular debit or credit card. You can also link your Abela Virtual MasterCard to your Apple Wallet or Samsung Pay to pay in store.

No, you will need to load money from your Abela wallet onto your virtual card before making use of the virtual card for online purchases/payments.

No, having and making use of your Abela virtual card is completely FREE!

It is FREE to sign up to Abela and create an Abela account and there are NO monthly or hidden fees!

No, all transactions from Abela to Abela users are completely free and instant!

There are no limits on the transactions between Abela users; however, our limits for withdrawing from our cash out partners are:

R3.000 per day
R24.000 per month
If you need to increase your limits please reach out to customer service.

Security

You can recover your password on the login screen where it says “Forgot your password?”. You will need to click that and put in your cell phone number to receive an OTP. Enter the One-Time-PIN (OTP) and follow the prompts.

You can contact our Abela support team so they can unlock your account and allow you to log in again. Alternatively, you can wait for 24 hours for the automatic unlocking of your account.

Absolutely! Your money is safe and secure within your Abela account. No person has access to your account other than you. All funds within Abela are stored securely in a global bank account.
